Helping the Victims in Japan Through Second Life

That's my new avatar by jin acacia, a relative newcomer to Second Life he's a resident of Japan. I have no idea how he's doing but I've decided to be optimistic and expect to see him back inworld once his physical life has recovered from the horrible events still occurring in his country.

My little friend is a Relief Bear you can purchase through the Marketplace. Created by Linden Lab all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross for Japan Disaster Relief. The Second Life community will have fundraisers - events and product sales - and I know they will be well supported. If you know of a fundraiser please give us some information in the comments.

As always you can donate in the physical world. From your national Red Cross organization to Unicef and Doctors Without Borders there are a myriad of ways to help.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you can help, in any way, please do. It has been a long rough period for many around the world and this latest event is horrifying. The thing about Second Life is that we can actually put avatars, if not faces, to these disasters. It makes it personal for us all.

Hi Honour... I just wanted to say thanks for sharing how people can help. Such a tragedy but I know it will bring out the best in people.

Jin's work looks amazing and I would love to see for myself... do you have a SLurl form him... I went to his picks and the link is to an empty shop. I hope he's ok and that he has a shop somewhere I can't find.

Take care and keep up the good work.

He has a very tiny store on Ponkatsu (at least that's the only one I know) http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ponkotsu/135/233/22
